There are many dark and desolate places in the world.

In these places lurk haunts and horrors.

Step from the present into a gaslit world of eldritch horrors and dreadful haunts. Supernatural beasts from the folklore of many diverse cultures stalk the nights of the 19th Century, as players chase, investigate and struggle against creatures beyond common philosophies.

Chandra shivered slightly in the cool night air.  She had many memories of nights sleeping under the stars, and of terrible things which happened when the sun fell beneath the horizon. She silently offered a prayer to Shiva, He who is death and time, which destroy all things. She prayed to Shiva that he would share his great wisdom with her.

"Mr Dane," she said, calmly. "The preta I saw had no face." She paused for a moment before continuing.

"In my country, which is not yet as civilised as this, sometimes men fall to violence.  Whilst I pray to Shiva and Vishnu for them, some are not fortunate. They have no families, no-one to offer prayers and sacrifices for them once they are gone.  These men become pretas and haunt the living.  I fear that we are dealing with such a creature here, in England, half the world away from my home."

The Princess paused.

"Make no mistake, Mr Dane.  I saw through the thing which shared our carriage.  It had no life on this plane. It had passed into another realm of being."

She shuddered as she recalled the whole episode.

"And I swear by Shiva and Vishnu, by Garuda and Lakshmi and by Krishna and the ten avatars of Vishnu, that he had no face"
